I have been working with children, adolescents and families for roughly 10 years both relating to behaviour and mental health and have experience working with populations with a large variety of diagnoses, and in areas such as ADHD, ODD, anxiety, depression, trauma, addictions, social and interpersonal skills, learning disorders, self-esteem, self-regulation, self-harm, and sports performance. Currently, I work predominantly with older children, adolescents, and adult populations. Additionally, prior to my time working in education and mental health, I worked in the oilfield and in exterior home construction, and have an interest in working with members from the blue-collar and uniformed population as well.
My therapeutic approach is eclectic, and incorporates interventions from a variety of treatment modalities. I believe in the importance of trauma informed practice, and individually tailoring my approach for each person, so I believe in the importance of flexibility and a client centered mentality when I am counselling. To me, creating a strong relationship is a crucial ingredient of effective therapy, so I believe in the power of humor, self-disclosure, and meeting the client wherever they are at in the change process. I utilize a practical, hands-on, evidence and skill-based approach to counselling, and adversity can be an opportunity for growth and change.
